StreetGames are pleased to offer Level 1 Introduction to Health Improvement as the first of a number of new health courses within the Training Academy’s portfolio for 2014.

Course Content

This entry level course provides an introduction to health in its broadest sense. Learners will be encouraged to explore and reflect their own health choices in order to develop an understanding of:

  • What is meant by health and wellbeing
  • Their current attitudes to other people’s health choices
  • What social and medical advances have influenced public health over the years
  • What can impact both positively and negatively on health

Course Structure

15 hours of interactive delivery, usually a block of two days. The course requires learners to consider their own health behaviours and attitudes to health, which can be challenging. On the second day, course tutors will be on hand to provide individualised support to help learners reflect their own health choices, support they have given to peers, friends and people in their community and share learning from their experiences.

Assessment

Learners will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the course through a portfolio which will involve a mix of group and individual written, photographic and video evidence activities.

Who is it for? Community sport project leaders, coaches and volunteers.

Pre-requisites: There are no compulsory pre-requisites for this course. It offers the chance to build on skills previously gained through courses such as the Sports Leaders UK Level 1, 2 and 3 awards; national governing bodies of sport awards; and youth and community qualifications.
