I’m a small town Northerner who now lives in London and works as a Fashion Buyer. From age nine, I trained and competed as a sprinter at English Schools level. Representing my County of Staffordshire and club Stoke AC.

I believe athletics helped to set me up with some great life skills which have helped me in everyday life and in my career. I think I have athletics to thank for being self-motivated, hard working, competitive, confident and it gave me the ability to overcome set backs. All of which I’ve needed to progress in the Fashion Industry.

Around my work schedule I’ve started a website ‘I Was A Runner’ which is more than just a blog. It's a creative outlet expressing my style, thoughts, travels and inspirations. My aim is to encourage females into sport and exercise.I want to raise awareness of the benefits of being involved in sport and exercise at any age. A subject I’m eager to address is body image. This is something I struggled with growing up in sport and I don’t feel there's enough support out there to help girls overcome this issue and prevent them leaving sport.

I regularly work out to remain fit and healthy and I’ve also started volunteering at some athletics tracks in London. I’m doing an assistant coaching course at the end of the month so I can start taking my own sprint group.

What Alanna says about Us Girls

“I’m really excited to be a part of the Us Girls programme. I think it’s an amazing organisation that offers lots of different opportunities, for young women from all different backgrounds. I hope my story will help to encourage people into sport for all different reasons. Together I hope we can raise awareness of the benefits of growing up with sport and as a result help girls to create a positive outlook on life.”
