StreetGames has received the fantastic news that one of our dedicated members of staff has been nominated for a prestigious National Diversity Award.

Graham Helm, National Doorstep Sport Advisor, has always applied his firm belief in fairness and inclusion to all his work and as a result finds himself deservedly making the shortlist for the Positive Role Model – Disability category.

Many of you will have met Graham at our Roadshow events in February and March, where he led the practical session on ‘Earn, Save, Raise’.

StreetGames Head of Network Development, John Downes, said: "Graham thoroughly deserves this nomination and I my eyes deserves to win this award.  His approach to his work is an example to us all and his focus has always been on what can be done to improve the lives of young people through StreetGames, regardless of their background, personal circumstance or challenges they have faced.

"He always challenges the work we do and the work local projects do, always making us think - 'Are we doing the best we can?'. He has a way of getting the best out of project staff and young people alike in his workshops, session and meetings.  The feedback I get from people when they work with Graham is always excellent and it is a testament to him that people request his time when they are asking for certain workshops or project support.

"Above all Graham is an absolute pleasure to work with and his passion rubs off on others around him.  He wants to challenge the status quo to ensure that access to opportunities in sport, volunteering, training are equal for all young people across StreetGames.  He is an inspiration not only to the staff of StreetGames but the network he supports and the young people they support."

Graham says he is “delighted” with this recognition but he needs everyone’s help in order to see him collect the award.

Part of the shortlisting process is based around a public vote, so to support him you will need to visit the voting link below. However, for this nomination, you do not simply click a button to vote for him but instead you will need to explain why you think Graham is deserving of this award. So please, take a few minutes to support someone who has been tirelessly dedicated to improving the lives of young people living in disadvantaged areas throughout his career but especially in the great work that he does for StreetGames’.

If you’ve come into contact with Graham you’ll be aware how passionate and knowledgeable he is; he brings a great deal of creativity to his work as well as his trademark sense of humour.
