Following a successful pilot of a new way to delivery Us Girls; the model is been replicated across 10 Boroughs in London. This area based “hub” model will ensure that more young women and girls aged 14-25 years, living in disadvantaged communities are taking part in regular exercise, fitness, sport and physical activity.

The London based Us Girls programmes, are being funded through a variety of partners. A successful application was submitted to the Greater London Authority Sports Participation Fund for 8 areas while Wembley Trust is supporting Us Girls in Brent. London Sport is also supporting the project with partner funding through Sportivate.

The Hub approach will bring together existing provision that is suitable for the target group and create new opportunities where gaps and demand exists.

Each area will develop a local service that provides young women and girls with the information and support they need to make their first steps towards being active. The initiative will target those who are currently inactive, disabled females and focus on regular participation.

At the heart of each project, volunteers known as ‘Us Girls Motivators’ will hold a key role in supporting the Hub. StreetGames will support the hubs to offer additional up-skilling opportunities through leadership, volunteering, training and youth action.

Areas involved:

Each Us Girls programme will be funded for either one or two years. We are confident that activity will continue beyond the funding period.
