StreetGames recently hosted the special ‘Nottingham City Celebration Event’, in partnership with the team at Active Notts. This exciting event was aimed at giving local providers a platform to shout about their work within the city, as well as the positive impact that they are having on the lives of disadvantaged young people.

Comprised of three hour-long sessions –dedicated to project presentations; networking; and funding opportunities, respectively (the latter of which was led by Active Notts’ Edwina Archer), the timescale soon shifted to accommodate the large amount of fantastic stories being presented, which ultimately led to the remaining networking and funding opportunities being condensed into an hour and ten minutes. Thankfully, this proved more than adequate!

The community organisations that attended and delivered a talk or presentation were: The Pythian Club; Base 51; The Freedom Foundation; New Horizon Trust; Helping Kids Achieve; A Star Sports Development; and Notts County Community Trust. The partners in attendance were StreetGames, Active Notts, Notts City Council Sport and Health, Notts City Council Community Safety and Nottinghamshire FA. Organisers asked each of these projects to talk about the areas of the city for which they were responsible, the type of programmes they deliver; the age and type of young people they engage with; as well as biggest success stories and/or challenges they’d faced over the past year.

Particular attention was given to these challenges, which have now been flagged for further discussion with the particular projects who raised them.

Those gathered for the event reported that they had found it to be extremely useful - especially the chance to hear about some of the other work being delivered locally. In addition, many providers remarked on the benefits of meeting these other projects face-to-face, with some even beginning discussions around future joint work. One example of this was The Freedom Foundation and the Pythian Club, who are now working towards a joint StreetDance workshop delivery.

StreetGames would like to thank everyone who attended, and contributed to this hugely insightful event.
