Located just under a mile away from the home of Liverpool F.C., the similarly-titled Anfield Sports & Community Centre (ASCC) offers low-cost, high-quality facilities to the area’s sports-mad youth. Activities range from football and netball, to trampolining, art camps and dance, with some classes even being offered to children as young as 3!

Anfield’s relationship with StreetGames goes back many years - first getting involved as a Doorstep Sport club, before more recently becoming part of the organisation’s Liverpool cluster. In the interim, Anfield Sports contributed to a wide variety of StreetGames programmes, including the Us Girls and Fit and Fed campaigns, while also finding time to host and attend a number of top sporting festivals!

As part of its work with Fit and Fed, the centre has also teamed up with Liverpool Football Club, along with British Cycling to create two short videos, both of which serve to highlight the massive impact that Fit and Fed is having within deprived areas. Check out the videos from LFC and British Cycling!

Like many community sport groups, ASCC relies on the goodwill and dedication of its volunteers to maintain its sporting offer, an offer which itself includes a Young Leaders and Volunteers programme. That initiative - which is linked to the StreetGames Bridging the Gap fund - helps ASCC to upskill staff members, and has also resulted in 17 local young people receiving their Level 2 Sports Leaders awards.

Speaking about the programme, ASCC Manager Marie Rooney said:
Our ongoing relationship with StreetGames has given access to initiatives and opportunities for our young people which would not have been easily available.
Supporting the fit and fed campaign has been much more than addressing holiday hunger, it built friendships and helped reduced isolation by bringing families together to experience active and healthy lifestyle through our inclusive sports projects. Well done Fit and Fed’ and StreetGames".

Thanks Marie, and thank you to everyone at ASCC for being part of this month’s StreetGames Project Spotlight. Keep up the great work!
