Access to Sports is a community-based sport development project operating in and around the boroughs of Islington, Hackney and Haringey. First created in 2002, the project works with some of the hardest-to-reach communities in these areas to change lives and promote fresh opportunities through the power of sport.

Describing itself as an 'on the ground' organisation, Access to Sports prides itself on delivering 'responsive and relevant sports programmes in tune with local and national agendas', whilst also achieving sustainability through its various partnership connections.

One such partner is StreetGames, which supports Access to Sports in the delivery of various so-called 'Urban Satellite' clubs. This includes four projects in Hackney, and a further two in Islington. The former, based around the Clapton area, 'was aimed at inactive young people and young people at risk of youth crime and anti-social behaviour'. The area  had previously 'been highlighted by local agencies [as] lacking in high-quality provision for young people'.

In addition, the Hackney-based projects also attempts to attract more female participants, by including more 'gender-neutral sports such as roller skating and street dance'. In both respects, the project has been a fantastic success, with coaches recording a number of promising developments, including 'a growth in self-confidence and competence […] seen in all young people'. Indeed 'As the young people attended more sessions and become familiar with the activities, the are continuously learning new skills and developing the know how that will lead to them becoming more active in the future.'
