StreetGames was saddened to hear of the passing of long-time community sports advocate Dame Tessa Jowell this weekend. The former Labour MP played a major role in London's 2012 Olympic bid, and subsequent 'legacy' programme - which served to inspire thousands of disadvantaged young people to improve their lives and communities through sport.

Speaking on Sunday, StreetGames CEO Jane Ashworth paid tribute to Dame Tessa's vision and understanding, stating:

"Dame Tessa Jowell fully understood the value of community sport to young lives. She knew that access to well-designed, well-run local sport coupled with the inspirational impact of global events in your own back yard could make a real difference. She understood that young people could grow into community leaders through sport".

Both StreetGames and Jane Ashworth would like to extend their condolences to Dame Tessa's friends and family at this time.
