Us Girls  is a programme specially designed to increase and sustain young women's participation in sport and physical activity within some of the nation’s most disadvantaged communities.

Us Girls recognises that not-very-sporty teenage girls prioritse their friends above almost everything else. That why the Us Girls strapline is, ‘…fun, fitness, friendship..’

In 2013, Us Girls won the public vote for the National Lottery Award for Best Sports Project. Click here for full details.

Kelisha's story

When Kelisha first began attending sessions with Us Girls, aged 13, she was incredibly shy and struggled with confidence issues. Having been very inactive in the past, Kelisha found it difficult to interact with other class members and would often be found at the back of the class hiding away.

However, Kelisha stayed committed and continued to attend the classes every week, building her confidence and fitness every session. Over time she conquered her shyness, becoming an active class member and an outstanding dancer in the process.

Kelisha now happily interacts and socialises with the girls and staff involved in the sessions.  As well as developing her own personal skills, Kelisha has come on leaps and bounds as a dancer. She was recently selected for a prestigious local private dance training group which will see her develop her skills even further.

Now nearly 15, Kelisha has the confidence to fully participate at school and continues to improve her dancing skills with Us Girls.
