Our Healthy Holidays Winter Training programme is now LIVE and includes a wide range of face to face and live online workshops starting on Tuesday 23rd November.

This offers a great opportunity for staff, volunteers and young leaders (16+) working on the Winter Healthy Holidays programme to access FREE training and boost their confidence and skills to deliver a fantastic programme.

Please do spend some time with your Healthy Holidays workforce to discuss what training could be beneficial to them/ you and book on via the links below. If you do have any specific training needs outside of the courses below please get in touch with and we will see where we can support.


NEW  : Icebreakers , Fillers and Fun Stuff to use  during your holiday programme!

This workshop is a great opportunity to access a range of activities/ice breakers to run with groups both face to face and online. This has been requested as part of the feedback from the summer programme so come join us for lots of sharing of fun ideas to keep young people engaged this winter!

NEW : Youth Mental Health First Aid  (2 day course)

With more young people than ever seeking Mental Health support this is vital training to upskill our Leeds workforce to be able to support participants as best they can this winter and thereafter. After a large number of practitioners completed their 3 hour workshop this summer this will is now the opportunitity to complete the full 2 day qualification which has been split into 4 live online sessions. The qualification will go into much more depth on what youth practitioners working in a community setting can do to prevent and/or intervene when needed. Youth Mental Health First Aid (Lite)

This 3 hour course raises awareness of mental health and covers: what mental health is and how to challenge stigma, a basic knowledge of some common mental health issues, an introduction to looking after your own mental health and maintaining well being and the confidence to support someone in distress who maybe experiencing mental health issues.

L3 Emergency First Aid at Work 

The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is suitable for anyone wishing to learn basic first aid skills and is often the minimum requirement for a sports coach or leader. The course is delivered in an informative, fun and innovative way by experienced CATCH  tutors. It is ideal for individuals who wish to gain knowledge of emergency procedures and First Aid.

Keeping Young People Safe in a Community Setting (Safeguarding)

This 3-hour workshop promotes a whole organisation approach to safeguarding and is suitable for project managers, coaches, leaders and volunteers working in community sport environments with regular responsibility for children and young people. On completion, learners will have a better understanding of how to deliver community sport and youth activities with a child welfare and safety centred approach ahead of this winter programme. As good practice all staff and volunteers working with young people this winter should have completed a safeguarding workshop.

Fun Activities for your Winter Holiday Programme

This 2 hour workshop is a great opportunity to access a range of activities to run during your holiday programme, particularly indoor games when catering for larger numbers in the winter programme. The workshop aims to support you with the delivery of safe, fun and effective activities as part of a school holiday programme as well as ensuring the activities meet the HAF programme priorities.

Managing Challenging Behaviour

The workshop explores how activity sessions can be used as an engagement tool to address social exclusion, anti-social behaviour and community tension and build stronger communities. Participants learn the characteristics of ‘hard to reach’ young people and how to effectively engage with them. They are shown how to recognise the causes and triggers of anti-social behaviour and they explore the development of tools and skills that enable young people to take ownership of their issues and effectively manage challenging behaviour.

Airsing from feedback from the Summer Healthy Holidays prgrogramme this will be an opportunity to air and share experiences or challenging situations around behaviour on holiday programmes. Support and solutions will be discussed from experienced tutors aswell as other practioners across the Healthy Holidays network.

NEW: Introduction to being a Young Volunteer on Healthy Holidays  

We know that many organisations have fantastic young people who are starting to volunteer in their organisations. We are really passionate about supporting organisations to upskill and give confidence to local young people to support on their holiday sessions and create a safe, fun and inclusive environment. This 3 hour workshop is for young volunteers age 14 + and will cover; 

  • The aim of Healthy Holiday activities 

  • Their role as a Young Volunteer 

  • Introduction to Safeguarding Young People 

  • How to engage young people in activities 

    As this is a short course, all young volunteers would still need support and supervision from staff within the locally trusted organisation
